Ramus Illumination are world leaders in large-scale lighting and video design. Our work is luminous art.
We illuminate city precincts, architectural façades, public art and live events.
Founded and led by creative director Bruce Ramus, Ramus Illumination is an award-winning collaborative design studio based in Melbourne.
We offer creative design services complete with technical and documentary detail for producing works that balance creativity with practicality.
The purpose of our work is to reflect the
quality of light in all people through the
buildings and public spaces of our cities.
Our collaborative process results in a unique approach to urban space that aligns public art, community engagement and commercial vitality, co-creating works that are innovative, interactive and sustainable.
Founder and Creative Director, Bruce Ramus is fascinated by light as a medium through which we connect and express as individuals and broader communities.
Using light, digital displays, moving imagery and the built environment as a canvas, Bruce co-creates works that encourage engagement, collaboration, and creative expression.
Canadian born, Bruce began his career as a lighting technician in the live music industry, working his way to designing and directing some of the world’s largest music industry shows and events, including artists U2, James Brown, David Bowie, REM, David Byrne, Bryan Adams and their appearances on televised shows such as the Academy, Grammy and MTV awards.
After moving to Melbourne in 2006, Bruce recognised a need for respite to the ever growing sea of digital screen advertising in cities and formed Ramus as a means to deliver an artistic response. With a focus on specialist lighting, comprising architectural facades, public spaces, visual imagery and interactive activations, Ramus now produces luminous textures and visually integrated light landscapes.
